Vision and Objective

“To work sincerely today for a better society tomorrow”. To build a healthy nation, we need a healthy family norm. Planning a family should be the first step. More specifically, reduction of MMR and PNMR through good antenatal and postnatal care remains a top priority. Healthcare should reach the low socioeconomic groups. And in the modern society where infertility is rampant, there is no greater joy than helping a childless couple conceive and deliver a healthy baby.

MMCH was established on 10th July, 2006 by Dr. Khoirom Tomba Singh. He took voluntary retirement with the sole objective of establishing this hospital. The motivation and drive behind establishing the hospital was to fulfil the dream of her late mother who passed away in April 1975 while he was still doing his post graduate MD at PGI Chandigarh. Seeing the poor health condition of the Manipuri society at that time, she constantly encouraged his son to pursue a medical career. That led to Dr. Khoirom Tomba Singh choosing MBBS over engineering when he got through both the selection exams.

As his family was financially very weak with no other source of income except from cultivating their paddy fields, affording higher education was a big strain on the family. Yet, he managed to complete PU science from DM College, Imphal. Although, in later life, Dr. Khoirom Tomba Singh served as Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology RIMS for more than 10 years, he could not give back anything to his parents when they needed the most. Besides, he couldn’t pursue his mother’s dream of uplifting the health care status of our society, particularly in maternal and child health. This led to him taking voluntary retirement and setting up Maipakpi Maternity and Child Hospital to honour his mother’s long cherished dream.

And today, after more than 13 years since MMCH was established, the hospital continues to cater to maternal and child health with an aim to further expand its services in the coming years.
